Moving out

So we hatched  some chicks , and moved from from the incubator and they have continued to grow, adn the weather has improved. So its time they went out into the big world.

We've found a sheltered spot, moved the henhouse there, put up some netting and then added the chicks,

The mesh can be moved around so they will get different ground to scratch  on .

moving home

The hen house was at the bottom of the field - we thought it would encourage them to wander. But they don't need any encouragement .

Hen house at the bottom of the field

(And some gratuitous views down the hill of the henhouse)

There were disadvantages to having it located there - principally in the winter

So its time to move it . We thought it  might be a bit of a struggle .

But after loading it onto my Mucktruck and some slow progress up the hill. It was relocated somewhere more convenient

And now its gone !

Sunday Afternoon

Of course sunday afternoons are for cutting the grass.
So I did. And it's only the 2nd time Ive had to cut this particular bit this year .

So 1/3 of the way through.

There is a bit more to do , but there were a few obstructions who were in the way. And as it was a nice afternoon, and that bit isn't too long,  and it would need the sit-on lawnmower, i thought i would leave it for another time

But I also had  few other jobs to do .

Erect a barrier to stop the sheep exploring round the hen house, making a mess and getting in the way, whilst leaving enough space  for the hens to get in and out .

And the final job was to bury a chicken that we found had died in the night,

Just a normal sunday afternoon really.

An enlarged home

with all the rain , it got a bit muddy for the hen and chicks ,

so we expanded their horizons , moved the fencing , added some netting to protect from predators

and they went exploring under the bushes

Getting Ready

Forecast is  that its going to get a bit windy for the next couple of days or so .

So the locals have started to tie stuff down and take in anything that could be blown away .

So we thought we'd better do the same

AFTER

BEFORE

And we've managed to  put the trailer next to stable  and tied it down as well.
