Grass needs a soil temperature of  about  5 degrees to grow .

its not going to get there for a while yet

so we've had some haylage delivered .

They are a bit heavy to move by hand

Good job Billy brought it with the tractor and put the bales in place to store .

The hay Store

So polycrubbing has been delayed since before Christmas .
We needed somewhere to store the bales, as building  the bigger shed  to take them has been delayed.
So its the east end of the polycrub. We are fortunate that strong easterly winds dont bring much rain with them  so they are OK uncovered.

Weve been awaiting a delivery of hay to  feed the sheep throufghthe rest of the winter.
It comes in a big bale,  brought by one of the neighbours with his tractor

But I can't put the ends on the polycrub because we wouldnt get the bale in .

As soon as we are sure we wont need any more hay deliver , or the new shed to store it in get ererected, it will be back to polycrubbing.

a bit of rain

We've had a bit of rain in the last 24 hours or so - 26mm ( an inch) according to a local weather website.
A lot of water  has come off the hill and the stream has been in full flood.

And the little bridges  couldnt cope so  various bits have been awash with rain .

The excess water escaped through the duck run

And it all joined up again in the burn a bit lower down .

And the road has been flooded .

one unlucky driver got a bit stuck

But its not really a problem.  There are a lot of people around with a tractor to pull you out .

So thanks go to Davey.

A trunk road

Of course we don’t live out at the back of beyond, miles from civilisation. We live  on a A road -  the main road between 2 important  villages. OK, its not Dual Carriageway ( a picture of  a rural dual carriageway is here ) but there is a passing place at the end of the drive, see

and on the way home there was a small ( well - quite large )  problem - a tractor had broken down.

But its OK really -  I looked at the verge and it wasn't too soft, and the dyke by the side of the road was set back a bit.

And the alternative  to reverse,  and find another route to come up the other side of the hill would have been 5 miles or so .

And of course there wouldn't be a problem.  As advised by the neighbours who were there as well ,  If I ended up in the ditch there are plenty of people around with a tractor who could pull me out .

So tractor  negotiated , ditch avoided I was on my way
