Temporary repairs.

 We had a bit of rain last weekend. 

The normal state of the pond is here 

But the heavy rain and torrent flowing down the burn has shifted the stones forming the dam . 

 

 

 And the force and height of the water has bent a bit of 2"x1" timber

So some temporary repairs to 

- stop the ducks escaping 

-stop a stoat or otter getting in and causing death and destruction 

- prevent any further damage ( a lot of winter still to go and a lot of rain still to come)

We've had a bit of rain in the last 24 hours or so - 26mm ( an inch) according to a local weather website.
A lot of water  has come off the hill and the stream has been in full flood.

 And the little bridges  couldnt cope so  various bits have been awash with rain .

The excess water escaped through the duck run

 And it all joined up again in the burn a bit lower down .

And the road has been flooded .

one unlucky driver got a bit stuck

But its not really a problem.  There are a lot of people around with a tractor to pull you out .

A bit of damage

Weve had gale force winds for the last 48 hours . The Aberdeen Ferry couldnt get to the pier and spent the night 'parked up' in the bay. So 6 hours on the ferry ended up being 20  hours.

there is going to be a bit of a problem getting  things on and off the Eday  ferry , as part of the approach road has been  washed away 

 And weve had a bit of damage ( other than the double glazed window , where the gale force winds managed to force some rain though the frame  - a job for some silicone sealant on the outside when the weather has improved. 

The winds and rain has brought down so much rubbish that the drainage got blocked and  a bit of the drive got flooded .

An old tree was brought down. So thats the firewood for next year,

And a bit of the wall has been blown down . So there is a job for the summer.

But we have had quite a lot of rain, and there are bits of fields under standing water  and there is  a lot of mud around.  And the water that falls has to find its way down to the Bay.

The engineering for the new pond has been successful  - too successful in fact because there is a little stream running out from the pond .

 

 And then the water runs down through the small field. Its good job we moved the hen- house - if we hadn't it would now be in the middle of a  little stream .
  And then the water runs down through the field . We have the burn , but the water is finding its own way to the Bay - we have another ad-hoc  burn .
