As expected

We moved a bale of hay.

And  as expected

And on closer inspection

 
Actually 6 eggs  - probably laid over about 10 days.  Still fresh  by supermarket standards 
But as we dont know the dates on which they were laid, we are not going to sell them .

Who knows , we may find somewhere else the hens have been going to lay eggs !

Egg update

between 5 am on Friday and 2pm on Saturday ( when a neighbour was passing and noticed the lid was off and the box empty), money was removed.
There were 2 boxes of eggs for sale , so we assume 2 x £1.50 + 50 p float = £3.00 was removed.

As we are a mile off the main road, someone has driven up, stopped their car, removed te money and then gone on their way.    It probably  cost them more in car use and petrol than they have taken from the honesty box.

After the theft from our box , reported on facebook and to the Police , we have reduced the float that we put in the box. So potnetail buys need to have the right change. Or, theia being Orkney,   if they dont have quite the right amount, they will leave any shortfall next time they are passing . 

But someone has come up with a solution

Whilst out cutting the grass  ( you do a lot of that at this time of the year) , I spotted a hen, sitting suspiciously. And on closer insepction there was an egg.

And when i turfed her off the eggs , there were a load  of eggs. 15 in this batch , and another 3 a short distance away   

So she has been laying egges here for 3 weeks , and then started to sit on them. 

As we arent so far  planning to hatch any chicks of our own, we put her back in with the others. 

But this is 3 boxes of eggs we could have sold !

An Orkney Crime Wave

The Orkney Egg  thief has struck again . But this time in daylight

And the Police have been informed . 

 Its only a matter of time now.

The whole populace ( except for one)  will be on the lookout for the Orkney Egg Thief.

Sold Out

the hens are laying well  ( as well as starting to breed well) .
We started selling eggs from the end of the drive back in April .

And its surprised us .

We are selling approximately a dozen boxes (6 dozen  - 72 eggs ) from the box at the end of the drive.

And we have run out.  So to stop customers stopping unnecessarily, ive had to cover the sign up.  back in action ASAP.
