The X 99
There are a number of ways to get to Orkney.
The X99 Bus from Inverness is one way . The journey ends at the Scrabster ferry terminal and the timetable links up with the ferry sailings.
The route is scenic - along the A9 through the Black Isle and along the coast , stopping at the villages on the way . And the journey time is comparable with driving and the train.
A friend did it recently and has some comments
-The bus station is a five minute walk from the railway.
-The coach leaves from stand 1.
-Going, we found it rather hot and had to ask the driver to turn the air on.
-As it was misty some of the way its a bit unfair to comment on the scenery and views
We've got some experience of the Aberdeen to Kirkwall crossing as well.
